Chris Morehouse
Tuesday with several additional players added from AHL teams were on the ice getting prepared for Friday's pre-season game against the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena. Tough guy, Chris Morehouse returned to the ice after spending last week in camp with the Peoria Rivermen. Matt Pierce who was in camp with the Rochester Americans returned to Cyclones camp today and looked as if he hasn't missed a step. Picking up where he left off, Pierce was skating well and looked ready for 2010. “It felt good to get out there with the guys and see a bunch of the same faces as last year,” said Pierce. “It was your average first day….just getting the legs underneath you and knocking the rust off. I think it went pretty well.”
The Cyclones, also agreed to a contract with former Northern Michigan Wildcat and 2005 NHL Draft pick, 6'2 205 pound Matt Butcher. Butcher played 125 games in four years at Northern Michigan scoring 15 goals and collected 44 assists for 59 points. Matt was in camp last week with Pierce in Rochester. For his size, Butcher moves very well and shoots extremely well.
Matt Butcher
It’s the overall size and physicality of this team that excites people the most. As I mentioned earlier in camp, rookie forward Chris Minella continues to impress with his strength and skating ability – especially for a bigger guy. You would never guess that he was a first year player. He and fellow-CCHA’er Matt Butcher threw their weight around in one of the drills. I can’t wait to see them both in the preseason games this weekend.
